Help reduce social isolation and loneliness for older people in Leeds
Time to Shine is a programme, led by older people, that aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation in people over the age of 50. These are major issues, not fully understood, and our job is to learn what makes a difference.
Time to Shine works in partnership to deliver activities, training and campaigns across Leeds that celebrate and promote positive ageing. What we learn will help older people live fulfilling lives now and in the future.
LOPF is the lead organisation for Time to Shine working with a number of partner organisations and older people to deliver this exciting and ambitious programme until 2021.
Age Friendly and Dementia Friendly
In the first three years of Time to Shine the Age Friendly part of the programme developed (in consultation with a range of older people and other stakeholders) the Leeds Age Friendly Charter, supported large cultural events e.g. Leeds Pride and Light Night to explore age friendly approaches and launched the “Come in and Rest” scheme.
Since 2013 LOPF has hosted the Dementia Friendly Leeds project and more recently explored the approach and resources required to develop Dementia Friendly communities.
These roles will build on the work of the previous Age Friendly and Dementia Friendly Officers and will be an integral part of the Time to Shine team.
Whilst recognising the difference between being Age Friendly and Dementia Friendly and respecting the achievements of both, LOPF is now aligning the two projects in order to maximise resource and opportunities to learn what will make sustainable positive changes for older people in Leeds.
