Sikh Elders Neighbourhood Service was launched in September 2007. The service aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Sikh Elders living within Leeds, by identifying and developing services/activities which reflect the needs of Sikh Elders and promotes and supports independence.

The service provides and funds new services and activities run from the various Sikh centres and Gurdwaras (temples), as well as visiting people in their own homes. It provides opportunities such as social, physical and health benefits.

The service is modelled on the city’s network of Neighbourhood Services for Older People that also takes account of Sikh Elders’ cultural and religious identity and needs. This is be achieved by consulting and involving Sikh Elders about the services they want and where they want their services to be located.

The project is for the Sikh elderly community in Leeds predominantly but not exclusively.
