Time to Shine’s plans for the summer

Time to Shine will be out and about at various events in Leeds this summer.

If you are free it would be great to see as many of you at the events as possible.

The line up is:

18th June – Otley Carnival
25th June – Hunslet Gala
1st July – The big Disco
2nd July – Holbeck Gala
9th July – Kirkstall Festival
6th August – Armley Festival
7th August – Leeds Pride

Kirkstall / Otley / Holbeck / Hunslet / Armley

We’ll be present at these events to publicise what Time to Shine is, what we do, and how people can get involved as volunteers or service users.

We want people to know why loneliness is a problem and what they can do to help. To this end we will ask people to pledge their commitment to address this issue, with Time to Shine temporary tattoos, and participate in our awareness raising campaign.

We will also have information on-hand about local neighbourhood networks so people can get involved in the local community.

Leeds Pride
Join us at Leeds Pride, Yorkshire’s biggest celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* life, where we’ll be promoting the message that ‘getting old shouldn’t mean getting lonely’ and raising awareness of LGBT issues for older people.

On Wednesday 13 July, we will be having an open session to make posters to carry with us at Pride. Pop by the LOPF office at Joseph’s Well if you would like to help! (Everyone welcome; advanced creative skills NOT required!)

Big Disco
We hope to have a ‘safe space’ at the Big Disco for older people so they can attend this signature Leeds event safe in the knowledge that they can have a sit-down, chat and tea in the midst of the partying.

Please watch the blog for further updates as our plans may change and we’ll share more information closer to each event.

If you’d like to attend any of the events please let Hanna Wilcock, our Learning Facilitator, know on or call 0113 244 1697.

We look forward to seeing you there!
