We warmly welcome today’s announcement from the Government to revive the Pensions Commission.

This is a vital step toward confronting the growing retirement crisis and ensuring that tomorrow’s pensioners are not left worse off than today’s.

At Leeds Older People’s Forum, we know that financial security in later life is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

That’s why, in our Manifesto for Change, we call on policymakers to make access to financial benefits, such as Pension Credit, simpler, fairer, and automatic wherever possible. With over £30 million of unclaimed Pension Credit in Leeds alone, the need to streamline this support has never been clearer.

Too many older adults are missing out on the income they’re entitled to, often because the system is too complex, too digital, or simply not well communicated. Making this support easier to access could transform lives, helping people age with dignity, choice and peace of mind.

As the Pensions Commission takes forward its work, we urge the Government to place older people’s voices and lived experiences at the heart of the conversation to design a pension system that genuinely works for everyone and ensures that a financially secure later life is something that we can all count on.
