Leeds Older People’s Forum is managing Travel with confidence to enable older people to take more independent journeys, through travel training for individuals, encouraging taxi firms to provide a positive offer and influencing how taxi drivers are trained and licensed.
About this project
LOPF is working with the following organisations, as delivery partners on Travel with confidence:
- Age UK Leeds
- Burmantofts Community Friends
- Cross Gates and District Good Neighbours’ Scheme
- People in Action
- TCV Hollybush
The following are strategic partners on the project:
- First Bus
- Leeds City Council Taxi Licensing
- Volition
- West Yorkshire Combined Authority
- William Merritt Disabled Living Centre
We are also working with an independent evaluation partner.
Travel with confidence comprises three distinct themes:
- Travel Training – including: a structured training programme; Travel Buddy programme to help build confidence in independent travel, particularly for people living with frailty or disability; Active Travel, supporting community organisations to develop inclusive walking groups, and ana annual programme of workshops and events.
- Age, disability and dementia friendly taxis – building on work done during Travel Connections, including continuing the ‘Support our Seniors’ taxi campaign, and a programme of peer learning for members of LOPF and Volition.
- Transport consultation – learning from the experience of older people living with frailty or disability, and sharing the insights with decision-makers.
Travel With Confidence is funded by Motability from January 2024-March 2027.
Taxi talk
Older people who use the services of Bramley Elderly Action and Feel Good Factor (Leeds, UK) talk about the importance of taxis in their lives, and shared the positives and provide useful hints and tips for taxi drivers, when supporting our seniors.
With thanks to Bramley Elderly Action, Feel Good Factor, Meanwood Valley Urban Farm and to everyone who took part.
