Driving Change Together

Leeds Older People’s Forum is leading Driving Change Together, alongside the William Merritt Centre which looks at the very sensitive decision of how and when we retire from driving. Driving Change Together is funded by the Road Safety Trust.

About this project

Mature Driver Appraisal

Leeds Older People’s Forum and the William Merritt Centre are leading a pilot scheme to support older drivers to drive safely for longer.

This ‘light touch’ appraisal will be carried out by one of William Merritt’s approved driving instructors, assisting a person in their own car, driving to places that they are familiar with in the location in which they live.

Awareness campaign

We are developing an awareness campaign, designed by older adults for older adults, to help keep older drivers safe on the roads.

The campaign will be launched in Road Safety Week (17-24 November 2023). It will include:

  • workshops and educational sessions
  • updates on changes to the Highway Code
  • information on alternative transport options.

Driving Change Together Champions

We are also recruiting people to be Driving Change Together Champions

Funding

Driving Change Together is funded by the Road Safety Trust until March 2024.

Please get in touch if you would like to know more, or if you may be interested in being a Driving Change Together Champion.
